AUSTECH, a
Stunning Success for Hi-Tech Metrology!
Hi-Tech Metrology has had
its most successful AUSTECH show ever in 2007 with two stands of the latest
measuring and scanning equipment from our overseas principals including
Hexagon Metrology, FARO, Micro Vu and Hommelwerke etc. High levels of interest were
shown by all visitors to both the portable and the fixed metrology equipment
stands and a large number of enquiries and requests for further information
were obtained during the four-day event. We had all our leading
brands of HEXAGON CMM’s operating at the Show, measuring parts and proving
the versatility of these tools for both shop floor measurement as well as
very accurate measurement in the QC laboratory or metrology room. On the portable metrology
stand large numbers of visitors witnessed first hand the ease in which a
model car could be scanned (digitized) and the 3-D data available in real-time on the
computer using powerful data collection and manipulation software such as
PolyWorks from InnovMetric. It was also great to see
other FARO equipment in operation and on display on other stands around the
Show. We saw a FARO Gage portable
on-machine inspection tool operating on the Camplex stand, a Platinum FaroArm
on display on the AMTIL
the organizers of the annual AUSTECH exhibition which alternates between
Melbourne and Sydney, reported that this year’s attendance was very strong at
over 14,000 for the four day show and over 20% larger than the previous
largest show. |

New Sheffield CMM Installed at
Mike Miller & Son in
Mike
Miller & Sons, a precision production and machining business, based at
Picton southwest of The
machining facilities at Mike Miller and Son’s plant include CNC lathes (high
speed production machines, turning centres – up to 500mm diameter and
1.0metres between centres), CNC machining centres, conventional machining precision
fabrication and welding and component assembly and test. Quality
systems based on ISO 9002 are in use and provide full traceability at all
stages of manufacture. In
June 2006 at the AUSTECH 2006 Show in Sydney, General Manager, Nigel Miller,
approached Hi-Tech Metrology about the purchase of a CMM for their business
and after a number of months of on-going discussion and dialogue Mike Miller
and Sons ordered a brand-new Sheffield Discovery D12 CMM. The CMM was delivered in March 2007. The
key reasons for Mike Miller & Sons purchasing the Sheffield CMM were,
according to Nigel Miller: ·
Majority of work that they need to produce is very intricate and
requires product verification and full 100% inspection. Demand from customers
for improved quality and complete process control is becoming the norm, hence
the requirement for a specialist metrology tool such as a CMM. ·
The purchase of a CMM now adds another dimension to Mike Miller
& Sons business and enhances their quality assurance capabilities. ·
Enables Mike Miller & Sons to potentially quote for
additional services in the form of contract inspection work. Mike
Miller & Sons are extremely happy with the Sheffield CMM and it would
seem that the experience in dealing with Hi-Tech Metrology has been enjoyable,
throughout all aspects of the project - from first point of contact with
Hi-Tech, to machine install, to software training and service, has been both
professional and at all times helpful. |
